Survey Says Week: Pulling to a Close: Friday: Week End Heads Up

This is it, boys and girls! The last weekend of 07. Are you going to make it count? Go out with a bang? Or at least a thud? Cake&icecream is making like we're gonna have a blast. First off, its fucking gorgeous out, which makes us want to ride bikes, run through parks, and down 40s of Colt 45 and share yummy sundaes. When the sun goes down and its more closely reminiscent of a bleak wintry weekend, we'll hit the bars too heat up from the inside. (Whiskey and wine I find to be particularly good warmth generators.) This is your last chance at training that liver, kiddos! NYE is upon us!

For a quicky fix to the end of Survey Says Week, we asked around for everyone's favorite weekend spot, drink, event, or hobbie. Me? I like dancing. I like dancing A LOT. In Philly there are dance parties for every kind of music and sub-genre and clique on every night in every neighborhood. That city just dances. Here I find it a little more difficult to find places to do so. Granted I'm new and I hear there's this weird footloose law where bars and venues can't openly advertise dance floors and what not. LAME! (Oh, Kevin Bacon, rescue us!)

So whats a girl to do? Usually what winds up happening is too much bourbon on too little food, and then us gals just don't give a fuck, and you got a dance party on your hands like-it-or-not. This happens at our whiskey-fueled-will. Sometimes it even involves heated confrontation with the bar's DJ.( L:"Hey, we're gonna have a dance party, so play dance songs." DJ :"Excuse me? Na, its ragga night?" L: "Did I fucking stutter? Dance party. Its happening now.") If you've made it to midnight without cutting any rugs you can always fall back on Sputnik. I've been too the best hip-hop and live jazz-funk-fusion parties there. There's usually a cover for the music downstairs, but you can haggle the door price, especially if you're rollin' 5-deep, which is, ...you know...just how I do.

On the stops for this weekend is seasoned favorite Zabloski's. It reminds me of my favorite bar in Philly, The Ministry (RIP) only much much cleaner. I miss the dirtiness and killer juke-box factors of Ministry, but Zablos is matches it on cheapness and atmosphere. Decent jams too, especially when Mattly plays. He's there Friday and Saturday nights playing 70s and 80s funk B-sides. Even if that's not your brand, its not particularly mine, just watching him will definitely bring a smile to your face. Whether the place is packed or its just me and the girls jumping around at an empty bar, this dude is having a fucking great time and its infectious! And the wait staff's good-lookin'. They done thought-a everything.

My favorite drink comes from a new east Williamsburg joint, Huckleberry bar. Awesome decor, awesomer branding, and awesomest bartender Caleb. Just tell him what you like, and he's got some custom elixer in front of you before your DTs kick in. They do their own juices, syrups, yada yada, whatever.... drinks are fuckin good there. I hope this place does well. I just told him I liked bourbon and I had some top-Kentucky mash with muddled young ginger and blah blah...fucking delicious. End of story.

After the glamorous parties with Brooklyn low-brow-elite and side walk stumbling around the Lower East Side I usually like early, drunken walks to Ft Greene with the pooch, sippin' on some coffee, and shopping the farmer's market on the arm of the nice boy who held my hair back not hours before. Then maybe some ice cream. The piece-of-cake-icecream at the Crown Fried Chicken on DeKalb is no joke- don't fucking laugh- its the absolute best ice cream ever. But if you're looking for a more sweet, nay, romantic experience for your banana split, meet me at the Blue Marble in ParkSlope. A tall, dark, handsome, and ironically lactose-intolerant fella named Patch will scoop the flava yr little heart desires.

L's weekend picks:
"For a weekend, unwind drink I'd have to say vodka and apple juice. Its all the rage in Paris, in fact its all we drank while I was there earlier this year. For some reason no one's really caught on here. No bar carries apple juice! WTF? For the weekends [besides insane dance parties] I like window shopping and dorking-out in bookstores."
(The editors would like to add 2 things to L's comments: 1. L is making it seem like her weekends are far more tame than they are. She-a-party-ANIMAL, yo. 2. Also try spiced rum in apple juice- yum yum!)
